now backing up with bacula

This weekend I installed and configured bacula to do a backup of my portable to CD-R's. All things considered it went fine, the only thing I would like more was to have a 'forever incremental' mode....

The director and management stuff is so much better then tar+gz :-)

You'll hate that when you need to do a full restore three years from now, and *one* CD-R somewhere in between isn't readable anymore :-)

A different kind of incremental I fear

I've touched TSM's incremental forever. You just say "make it so my backups are N tapes". The system then always does incremental backup of the changed data and of the data that is not contained in the set of N tapes that is contained on tape N+1 (that is about the be scrapped). That way you never need to have a full backup anymore, but still don't need an unlimited amount of tapes.

Replace the word tape with CD-R's in the previous lines to actually see what I mean. ;-)
