My home server started acting up a while ago, yesterday I found that it was 'on' but non-reactive.

I removed it from the niche where it stands and I noticed it was really dusty. So I cleaned up all the dust that accumulated and it power on again without problems.

I started an 'aptitude update' cycle and when I came back a bit later it was unresponsive again. I tried resetting it, then did a hard power down. That at least worked. Then I turned it back on and I heard 'bzzzzz' followed by 'pop!' and the traditional 'burned electronics' smell.

Bummer. The power-supply let out all its magic smoke. Now I need to find a new one and I'm an OSX-only person until this is fixed.

comments
