my memory is fading...

After a few weeks of strange strange problems with darcs, sbcl and finally ghc I did a memory check from the 'press the blue button' pre-boot utilities of the R 40. Guess what: I have a broken DIMM.

So now I'm checking the MD5 of my files, checking my archives to see if permanent damage was done. But with only 512MB this thing is crawling...

The replacement memory should arrive on Monday, just in time to do yet another migration on Tuesday.

How long do you have the StinkPad and how many HW problems did it have in that time?

At 'ork, we started to migrate to StinkPads about 2 years ago from Dell Inspirons and IIRC there's not a single one that didn't have at least two parts break down (mine, R52, which I have for pretty exactly one year now, has had the DVD drive replaced, the harddisk replaced twice, plus new screen hinges).

Well this one has created a few bad sectors after 480 days of operations (it is on almost all the time). After that it behaved itself, but in the last 2 months I had:

• a broken ventilator (did an intervention with the cpu at 90 C)
• a power brick that just gave up
• and now: bad RAM

I just want a portable with ECC bloody everywhere, is that too much to ask for?
