The Power of Nightmares

Yesterday I watched The Power of Nightmares on BBC2. It showed how both the neo-conservatives and the Islamic jihad actually want the same thing, and they both chose almost the same method: fear. I did not see many new things in this report, except that the stories that the terrorist of the 1970's where planted by the CIA in European newspapers. Knowing that in the early 1990's it was revealed how the USSR was helping the peace movement in Europe I always assumed the stories about the terrorists could be true. Seems not.
My major wonder was why this program was allowed to air. Will it air in the USA? Not that it would have a major effect on the elections; the Bush votes seem brainwashed enough to ignore even harder evidence, old stuff like the 1970's would be unlikely to make them change their vote. Not even that their preachers went and "make a deal" with the neo-conservatives would sway them.
The Guardian article on the series gives a bit of background. I remember seeing Pandora's box and thinking this was one of the best documentary series I have even seen. This seems even more relevant.
Think not of what the government can do for you, think of what the government can do to you. :-(
