After a visit two weeks ago by the plumber with quotes like "there isn't enough air in here for this heater" and "the heat exchanger is worn out" we decided to get a new water heater for the bath and kitchen.

After a long and complex job (it took 5 hours and several trips to the depo to get more chimney tubes) we now have a Vaillant turboMAG 17. I could not find this product in any English speaking country, so dutch and italian for you :-).

It is a pretty nice product: electronic starter, so no pilot flame to waste; it is a closed system that sucks air from outside and pushes the waist air out, requiring a complex 3 layer chimney; and it even is a modular system that will try to keep the water below the temperature at which chalk will deposit on the tubes. The only disadvantages are that it takes slightly longer (2 instead of 1 second) to start and that if you ask for more waterflow then it can heat, the speed at which the water comes out doesn't change, but the temperature goes down.

Of course we still haven't seen the bill yet, so this is a blissful time :-)
