working for a change
Jul. 24th, 2004 11:05 pmI had an interesting weekend. On Saturday I went out and bought a new skylight to replace our leaking one. After visiting 4 shops in 3 cities I found one at 300 EUR (!). The instructions included mentioned "only use nylon screws". So I went looking for nylon screws. After 5 shops I came out empty-handed. Assuming they want nylon against corrosion I bought teflon-coated inox screws, sea water proof. I hope it is good enough.
When we removed the old skylight it broke in 2 almost immediately, so we assume it was the cause of the leak. If not we will have to redo the roof, but then we would use a groendak, a roof covered in mosses and grasses. As this would make it almost impervious to UV degradation...
I also installed insect proof netting in most windows. This should keep the critters out.
While doing to roof I managed to drop a 5 liter paintcan on my foot. This combined with the skin I removed from my thumbs last weekend and the fingers I burned during the week means I'm not at all healthy.
Related: now I finally know why I cannot get any "decent" antiseptic anymore: Mercurochrome isn't considered good enough anymore. On one side it is good that they are reconsidering all those old cures and remedies. On the gripping hand, the red stuff never did me any damage. I screamed yes, but that was a sure sign it was working :-). I wonder what the Belgian army now injects into blisters to dry them out...
