Our finance minister had a strange idea to stop the rising cost of health care. Noting that most of the rise was due to new, expensive, medicines he decided to stop licensing the use of new medicines unless the pharma industry lowers the price of older medicines so that the net cost at the end of the year only rises with 4% a year. (see dutch article)
Stunning. I can already see the relatives of sick people that can be cured by a new medicine protesting away but in all honesty the plan has merit. Let us see what the pharma industry does...
