Italy and the €
Jan. 27th, 2005 04:59 pmThis report by the BBC is pretty spot on: prices doubled in Italy after 2002. From being a cheap place to go, it became as expensive as Belgium (in normal shops, the market is something else). To me it was clear from the beginning when shops doubled the price of good that 1 people would notice and 2 they would buy less good.
Shock, horror! It came out like this. At least in Belgium the government was strict in checking the "no price increase for N months before and after changeover" laws.
To be honest, economically Italy makes me depressed. I see no solution to their pretty deep structural problems. In the end only hard work can solve situations like this...
