Again the result of the elections in Spain get wildly different interpretations on different sides of the pond. Here people seem to think it was mainly a backlash against the attempt to redirect blame to the ETA so the PP would not suffer too much in the elections from people thinking it was the PP's fault that Spain got into the whole Iraq mess. Of course even if I were a moderate person without any strong feelings about the Iraq question, I do think I would be outraged that a so-called human would even think of withholding information and even flatout lying, not only to the public but also to the intelligence services of other nations that offered to help! All this just to win an election? That is almost worst then the terrorists...
Strangely enough the extreme-right did not think yet of labeling all Moroccans in Belgium as potential terrorists. And that with an election looming. Mohamed was 60m from the blast he told me. He got scared of course, but he only got really scared when he found out they arrested someone that is also Moroccan. I hope no crystal-nacht II will follow :-(.
Just when we thought we would live in a safer would we get thrown back into a world even more unstable and unsafe then the early 1980's. I almost feel at home...
