Aldi, HD-Ready and KvC

Last weekend I saw a large, cheap, HD-ready plasma TV at Aldi. Straight off I went looking for the problem and it took me a while but then I found it: "Physical Resolution: 1024x768". Yeah, HD-Ready all right: it can decode the picture, it even had HDCP, but it just cannot show all those pixels (1920x1080 in 1080i or 1280x720 in 720p mode).
Still, better then the 800x600 LCD TV they had at Carrefour a while ago.
Monday evening I went to the 'boys-night' and played an interesting game of Catan. I must be getting better, because my beginners luck ran out and I lost again.

Date: 2006-01-19 07:41 am (UTC)1024x768 just seems to be XGA and nothing more. EDTV is a TV signal with 480 lines, at 60 complete images (progressive mode) a second. With a horizontal resolution going from 704 to 720 pixels.
I'm interested how they will explain to people they need to buy a new TV to watch 'real HD' stuff in a few years time...
