Today we left Oaxtepec for Mexico city as a first stop of our post-debconf trip. The group was composed of people wanting more to 'do' culture and taste the local customs then others at debconf. Members: Kurt, Franz, Tássia & Tiago and Christoph. The trip in the taxi was interesting, was the 2 cabs we needed did not know where the office of Rodrigo is. So when we entered Mexico city they got a local cab to guide us.

In the end we got dropped off at the 'angel' and found the office with the aide of my trusted 'trottersgids', the dutch translation of "Guide du routard". After dropping off the extra luggage and the laptops we used the excellent metro to go to the bus-station. This resembles more an airport then something to do with buses, we found out that the 1st class bus is cheaper and one was leaving in 45', so we grabbed a quick lunch and left for the 6.5 hour drive to Oaxaca.

Mountains, passes, desert, forests, mountains, valleys, etc. Endless.

When we arrived at Oaxaca it seemed as the city was a gigantic obstacle course: everywhere there were cords spun across the streets, with plastic sheets and tents and people sleeping rough. When we arrived at the hostel Paulina (nice, clean but a bit too warm and a little noisy in the morning) it turned out that these people were teachers on strike. For a 0.2% pay-increase. And that they do this every year for 29 years already! We had a late dinner and went off to bed.
