As almost everybody else I'm pretty stunned by the bombings in Madrid. If we had not decided to not go to Spain on holiday for different reasons we would face an interesting question...

The big question now is "who did it". "Why" is almost meaningless. If is was ETA then they really are a bunch of sick idiots if they think they can gain anything with this. If is was al-Qaeda then they are not very smart. The government of Spain was in favor of the war(s), but I gather the population (as in many other European countries) was not. Hurting the people has almost no sense, except creating a wider sense of fear and fear leads to "easy" answers.

All in all it reminds me a bit of my youth spend waiting for either the nukes to hit us, the RAF or the IRA to bomb us. I would not like my children to grow up in such a trigger-happy world.

Irrelevant detail: nobody we know got hurt. (no that doesn't make it any better)
