An error in taste

I did a horrible error: I listened to the CD "Ijsboerke, Amourieux Solitaires" that contains a bunch of french hits. My fault was not noticing the little "Cover versions" on the back.
Now my relationship with french music is complex: it is part of my culture but still I had a lot of problems with french when I was younger. Still I like them so I tried the CD. Nothing could have prepared me for the shock of realizing that the original singers are so good compared to the "covers". Even the cover of the "Alizée" hit "Moi... Lolita" makes it painfully clear that Alizée can sing a lot better then the original. I'm not speaking of the covers of the Mylène Farmer hits that made me cringe. And realize I don't have these songs, so I'll be off getting them in one form or another. "Desenchantée" or "Libertine" are just too close to my heart to only have the cover version available.
